Eggs, eggs, and MORE EGGS

This post is probably going to surprise some, horrify others, and be a chorus of heavenly angels for the rest! Tonight’s foodie discussion revolves around the ever debated egg. It’s been good for you, bad for you, then the whites were good but the yolks were bad, and now, FINALLY, we have a definitive verdict on the ever befuddling egg debacle!

THEY MADE THE CUT! That’s right folks, eggs have FINALLY come out on the right side of science and been proven healthy! Of course, as always, I know I don’t have to remind you that this doesn’t mean you can just eat eggs all day every day and expect everything to be peachy keen but it DOES mean that this lovely source of protein is now guilt free!

So here are the facts:

  1. Lets start with the myth of all myths. That much debated info on the egg being a huge factor in raising levels of bad cholesterol? Yeahhhh…that info doesn’t play! THAT little fact was busted by comparing studies of people who eat eggs in different countries. In areas like Japan, one of the largest egg consumers in the world, the people actually have lower levels of cholesterol. What DOES raise cholesterol? The things we tend to eat WITH eggs: bacon, sausage, and butter with toast. Eggs themselves, depending on how much you’re eating of course, only have a small impact on your cholesterol levels when consumed in moderation. (Some experts are even saying 1 egg a day is fine!)
  2. PROTEIN GLORIOUS PROTEIN! Eggs are very literally the gold standard in protein.
  3. Eggs are a natural source of Vitamin D which helps to strengthen your bones and teeth.
  4. The egg yolks that for a while now had been considered a big no no? Yeah they contain vital nutrients like Lutein and Zeaxanthin that help prevent eye diseases and things like cataracts! These can also be found in greens like Spinach but they’re more easily absorbed when eating eggs because of the fatty yolks!

So tomorrow morning for breakfast switch up your routine a bit and add some eggs in there! Just pair it with something other than that bacon you’re craving! Make an omelette, toss together some eggs and veggies and make a frittata, hell throw a couple eggs in the frying pan and make a little breakfast sandwich with an English muffin! Have fun with your food, keep it simple, keep it clean, and keep it delicious!
